Install the extension

Chrome takes a few manual steps. Firefox is one click.

Chrome, Edge & Brave

    Download the ZIP

    Grab the extension ZIP from the button below and save it somewhere you can find, like your Downloads folder.

    Unzip it

    Right-click the downloaded file and choose Extract All (Windows) or double-click it (Mac). You will get a folder — keep this folder; deleting it removes the extension.

    Open the extensions page

    In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions (copy-paste it into the address bar and press Enter). Edge and Brave users: use edge://extensions or brave://extensions.

    Turn on Developer mode

    Flip the "Developer mode" switch in the top-right corner of that page.

    Load unpacked

    Click "Load unpacked", then select the unzipped folder from step 2. The extension appears in your list and its icon shows up in the toolbar.

    Pin and use it

    Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Social Media Downloader. Open any post, reel or video on Instagram, Facebook or X and hit the Download button.
